What to do before treatment?
It is best to eat something at least four hours before your appointment. Try to limit or reduce caffeine intake before the appointment. It’s recommended to set aside time for yourself during your appointment by silencing your phone if possible.
What to wear?
Loose fitting clothing that can comfortably be rolled up to your knees and elbows are encouraged.
What to do after treatment?
It’s important to make sure you stay hydrated, so drinking more water is always encouraged. Patients will often feel calmer after treatment, so if possible, let yourself relax and limit strenuous activities such as heavy weight-lifting.
Is acupuncture painful?
It’s normal to feel a slight pinch when the needle is being inserted. After the needle is inserted, there should be no sharp sensations. Certain sensations like tingling, pressure, distention, or numbness or all normal sensations as long as they are not distracting in intensity. It’s best to communicate with your acupuncturist if you have any concerns or hesitations.
What to bring?
If you have any relevant diagnostic materials, such as x-rays, blood work results, etc, feel free to bring those, and we will be happy to look at them, as they provide helpful information for diagnosis and treatment.
